The Hertfordshire family want to send a thank you message back to Mia for the balloon.

She said: "I wanted to let the little girl know that her balloon didn't quite get around the world but it made us all smile on this rather cold Thursday afternoon so thank you.

"I'm not sure whether you would be able to find out who the little girl was but I would just love for her to know that it got somewhere."

Miss Hamilton-Machell, a college student in Hertfordshire, said the family-of-three found the balloon hanging from a tree late on Thursday.

In travelling south-east the message must have travelled over Milton Keynes and Luton on its way to the small Hertfordshire village.
