Ryan Stewart, aged 17, passed away in May last year and his friends and family have arranged an event one year on including a ‘lads versus dads’ football match.

Family friend Lisa Goodey, who has helped organise the event, said: “The group of us who knew Ryan are very close. We’re like one big family, so having a big family event seemed like a fitting occasion.”

Ryan, who played for for Eastern Eagles and Rushmere Rovers, took his own life on May 1, 2015.

He had had a troubled few years, losing both his nan and his dad unexpectedly in 2012.

Lisa said: “This was totally out of character for Ryan and no one expected anything like this.

“Although he had struggled with losing his dad and nan, obviously all his friends and family were absolutely devastated.”

The event, which will be on Monday, May 2, will start at Southfields field at 10am with the football match

The rest of the event will take place at The Gallery pub from noon and will include a bouncy castle, face painting, raffle, disco by DJ Shane, barbecue, cake stall and tombola.

As well as the family day, Ryan’s two former schools, Woodvale Primary and Weston Favell, will donate funds from two mufti days.

Lisa said: “He lived on Southfields for most of his life and was very well known around the estate.

“He was a lovely, likeable lad. If only he knew how many people cared about him.”
