Family and friends to wear pink today in memory of Irthlingborough youngster

Chelsea Knighton from Irthlingborough was only three when she died on August 9, 2009, after battling the childhood cancer neuroblastoma for nearly two years.

The youngster had one wish before she died which was for her family to help other poorly children like her and this led to Chelsea’s Angels being set up in 2010.

Since then, the Irthlingborough-based charity has raised thousands of pounds to help other youngsters going through treatment and their families.

The charity is hoping people will support them as they wear pink today in memory of Chelsea.

Michelle Tomkins from the charity said: “Each year we honour little Chelsea on her ‘angelversary’ by wearing pink.

“We’d love you to join in and remember our inspirational little girl who gained her angel wings seven years ago.

“Her smile lives on by creating smiles for others.”
She added that they would love to see pictures of people supporting the pink day, whether they are wearing pink, have painted their nails pink or they have taken a selfie wearing pink lipstick.

One of the ways Chelsea’s Angels helps families is through buying something to put a smile on the child’s face or by offering financial support to the family.

This could be to cover costs such as fuel to get to and from hospital appointments, or to cover bills or mortgage payments.

They also donate care packs to youngsters being treated at Leicester Royal Infirmary where Chelsea was treated.
