Ever fancied trying out fishing? Now's your chance at Northampton's Abington Park

A family fun day to encourage more people to start fishing is taking place at Abington Park in Northampton this weekend.

The Angling Trust is organising the day, which runs from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, March 11. It is free to attend and is supported by the Environment Agency.

Event co-ordinator James Roche, the Angling Trust’s senior regional officer, said: "With the worst of winter nearly over now's the time to “Spring Into Fishing” at Abington Park, Northampton on Saturday March 11. This free, fun and friendly activity day for families run by the Angling Trust is a great way to get your whole family outdoors and active by the waterside.

"Everything needed to learn more about the wonderful world of fishing is provided. Spring Into Fishing is open to all ages and experience levels. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never picked up a fishing rod before, you’ll find out what to do and where to go next time.

"Fishing is a fun, exciting, cheap and healthy outdoor activity plus it’s a great way to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet surrounded by nature," he said.
