More flood fears as Met Office forecasts heavy rain hitting Northamptonshire for 2½ days

Northamptonshire is on flood alert again after the Met Office warned of a 2½-day deluge hitting the county this week.

Yellow weather warnings are in force from Tuesday morning through to noon on Thursday.

Experts predict spells of prolonged and heavy rain across the East Midlands and aeastern England which could lead to flooding and disruption to travel in places.

The worst of the rain is likely to fall on Wednesday.

Chief Meteorologist Neil Armstrong, said: “A wide area of rainfall will move across central parts of the UK on Monday evening and bring heavy rain for the following 36-48 hours. .

"Strong winds will also accompany the rainfall and may add to travelling difficulties across areas higher and more exposed routes and presenting a real threat of flooding.

“Keep up to date with the latest Met Office forecast as well as flood warnings from the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales.”

Parts of Northamptonshire close to the River Nene were affected by flooding last week for the second time in less than a month..

Environment Agency flood alerts remain in force for the Nene near Thrapston and the River Tove around Towcester.

And hundreds spent Christmas Day away from their homes after heavy rain forced them to be evacuated from Billing Aquadrome.
