Employers from around the country offer help to those made redundant by boat firm with bases in Northamptonshire

An MP has been contacted by several employers who may be able to help workers affected by the redundancies at Fairline.

The luxury boat builder, which made 185 people redundant following its recent takeover by private equity company Wessex Bristol, moved out of its Oundle headquarters on Friday as part of an effort to reduce costs.

Friday also saw a drop-in event organised by the Corby and East Northants MP Tom Pursglove for anyone affected by the job losses.

The event was held at the East Northants Council offices in Thrapston.

Mr Pursglove said: “On Friday, in partnership with East Northamptonshire Council, I organised a Fairline drop-in event for employees.

“I was delighted with the attendance and was pleased that those seeking advice were able to have some of their questions answered.”

The MP said that Fairline did not attend the event, but he had received an email from the new chief executive, which he has followed up on and he has been offered a meeting next week.

Mr Pursglove was grateful to everyone who attended the event and said: “I would like to thank all those who attended, including the DWP, East Northamptonshire Council, Unite, Amaray, Lighthouse Financial Advice, eVolve Your Future and Primark.

“I know that their input was greatly appreciated by all and it simply wouldn’t have been possible to hold the event without their support.

“I would also like affected employees to know that, following the announcement of redundancies in the local press, a number of employers across the country have been in touch and left contact details with my office.

“Having seen the value of such an event to employees, and depending on what happens going forward with Fairline, I am minded to hold another event in the future, should it be required.

“Rest assured I will continue to closely monitor the progress of this situation and if anyone has any specific issues they would like to raise with me, I would be happy to pass these on to Government ministers or Fairline for a response, and to try and obtain answers to any questions that affected employees may have.”
