Double Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington has officially opened a multi-million swimming pool and dance studio at a school in Northampton this afternoon.
The swimmer, who this week announced she was pregnant with her first child, was welcomed to Northampton School for Boys on Thursday where she was the guest of honour to open the new £4m swimming pool inside the newly built Edward Cripps Human Performance Centre.
The ceremony was held at the school to mark the completion work of the six lane, 25-metre swimming pool with moveable floor.
The new centre also includes a new dance studio and fitness suite.
Funding for the new building at the Billing Road school came from the Cripps family with the centre being named after the late Edward Cripps.
Rebecca was joined by members of the Cripps family and builders R G Carter who have worked on the project for the last 18 months.
Rebecca, who retired last year at the age of 23, said: “I wish I lived near Northampton so I could bring my children to swim here.”
