'˜Good' GCSE results up by 12 per cent at Northampton Academy

A total of 57 per cent of students at Northampton Academy achieved the Government benchmark this year - up by 12 per cent on the 2015 GCSE results.

As well as the increase in the number of students achieving five or more A* to C grades, including English and maths, 62 per cent of students achieved the new ‘basics’ indicator, achieving A*-C grades in both English and maths.

There were also outstanding results in individual subjects:

· More than 90 per cent of results for modern foreign languages (French, German, Spanish) were graded A*-C;

· More than 90 per cent of results for triple science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) were graded A*-C;

· 93 per cent of students made their expected progress in English;

· 92 per cent of results in Art and Design were graded A*-C;

There were also some notable individual student successes, with a record number of students achieving A*/A grades.

Anne Hill, Principal of Northampton Academy, said: “I would like to congratulate all our students who are celebrating today. These results are a fitting reward for all the hard work, determination and energy that students and staff have shown throughout the year.

“We are particularly pleased that so many will be staying on at Northampton Academy and joining our Sixth Form which also received its strongest results with over 20 per cent of our students accepting places at Russell Group universities.”
