The man called at the woman’s house in Wellbeck Close, Kingsthorpe, at about 6pm on Friday, April 10.

Once inside, he told the woman, who is in her late 80s, that he was from the council and had been sent to fit a safe in her home because of a spate of burglaries in the area.

He told the woman to wait in her bedroom while he did the work, but left the property after a short while.

The woman then realised that money had been stolen from her purse.

The man was white, about 5ft 5in, in his late 40s with short dark hair which was greying.

He was wearing dark, casual clothing.
