Duston villagers can count themselves lucky after another local chippy scooped the Chronicle & Echo’s Chip Shop of the Year prize this week.

Duston Fish Bar came out top in the Chron’s 2015 poll, which saw hundreds of readers cast a vote for their favourite.

Receiving the prize yesterday Hong Kong born husband and wife Albert and Wella Pang said they were ‘very proud’.

Mr Pang, 55, said: “A very sincere thank you to all of our loyal customers for voting for us.

“We are delighted and hope to continue to be the best in the future.”

Owners Mr and Mrs Pang moved to England in 1992 and have spent most of their working lives running shops.

First they owned the Municipal Market in Abington Vale, before going on to run a newsagents in Main Road, Duston.

But when the couple wanted a new challenge six years ago they chose they chose to take over the chip shop next door.

“My wife loved fish,” Mr pang said. “That’s why I wanted to get this business, it was for her.”

Six years on and the couple have developed a loyal following in Duston.

But Mr Pang said the key to Duston Fish Bar’s success is simple.

“The secret is to use good quality oil, fresh chips and good potatoes,” he said. “Plus we give a very good service and the hygiene is a very good standard also.”

Mr and Mrs Pang fought off 18 other chip shop of the year challengers to take the prize.

And this year’s result can only come as good news for Duston chippy lovers too - as last year the contest was won by Duston Village Chippy, less than a mile away.
