Dramatic scenes as bungling car thieves crashed vehicle catches fire in Northampton street

Car thieves ploughed a Ford Ka into a van in Northampton before fleeing the scene as the stricken vehicle caught fire.

Northamptonshire Police is appealing for witnesses after two men were spotted running from the scene of the crash in Broadmead Avenue at around 5.30pm on Wednesday, (December 7).

The Ford Ka they were driving caught fire and firefighters had to be called to the scene. Pictures show the airbag on the van had to be deployed but the driver is not believed to have suffered serious injuries.

However a police spokeswoman said the two thieves escaped.
