St Andrew’s have been awarded both the Great Green Star Award and Best Green Champion at the Investors in the Environment awards ceremony that took place at the end of November in Peterborough.

Investors in the Environment (iiE) are a non-profit environmental accreditation scheme designed to help the business sector save money and reduce their impact on the environment.

A spokeswoman said: “Throughout the year St Andrew’s has been working hard towards achieving the Green Award accreditation from iiE, and so far we have managed to reduce our carbon cost by £38,000, reduce our gas consumption by 9.88 percent, reduce our electricity consumption by 8.9 percent.

“The charity was given recognition for its continuous commitment and effort to being more environmentally friendly and energy efficient at the awards ceremony.

“But massive congratulations go to Lorraine Bean, environment manager for St Andrew’s, who was rewarded for all her hard work and continuous enthusiasm by winning the Best Green Champion award.

“When asked how she felt to win both awards and accept them on behalf of the charity, Lorraine said: “I felt really proud to receive the award on behalf of St Andrew’s and it just goes to show that we can achieve a lot by making small changes. Winning the second award was a real shock.

“The Best Green Champion award recognised my drive, motivation, determination and dedication to move environmental issues forward within the charity,” she added.
