Double blow for Wellingborough racer after horror crash followed by attempted theft

Milo Ward, 18, of Wellingborough was lucky to walk away without serious injuries after the crash at Brands Hatch in the Superstock 600 Championship on August 7.

But his misery was compounded when, after returning to his family home in Wilkie Road to work on his bike, thieves tried to steal the team caravan.

They were not successful but the caravan rolled down the hill, hitting a BMW and Audi A3 before careering into a garden wall.

It wrote the caravan off and Milo’s dad Darren says it could leave them in financial ruin.

He said: “We got home and put the caravan on the drive but it was still full of gear.

“There must have been two or three of them watching, they knew what they were doing.

“They tried to drive off with the caravan but it still had the hinge lock on so they couldn’t get it away properly.

“But it caused no end of damage to it, it’s a write-off. It hit a couple of cars and went into a neighbour’s wall.

“The last three weekends we’ve been out racing, this is what we use it for.

“We can kip in cars and tents but it’s nice to have a place to go and chill. This could financially ruin us.”

Milo, who rides for Motrac Racing, had earlier walked away with cuts and bruises after a horror crash which almost destroyed his bike.

Darren added: “Milo had a very lucky escape.

“He was battling with four guys and he got nearsided. He literally rode into them at 110mph.”

A police spokesman said that no arrests had been made so far and that their investigation was ongoing.

The spokesman added that two men were seen driving away from the scene in a dark coloured Ford Focus, and urged witnesses to come forward.
