Police have warned children to be vigilant after a girl was offered a lift from a stranger near a Northampton primary school.
The incident happened at about 8.30am yesterday (Thursay) when a girl, who is believed to be 10 or 11, was approached by a man in his car in The Scarplands, Duston, near Millway School.
A police spokesman said: “The stranger asked the girl if she wanted a lift to school and she very sensibly said ‘no’ and ran away.”
Police officers have since given an assembly to pupils at the school in Years Five and Six about Stranger Danger.
A letter sent out to parents said: “This is a serious incident and has been immediately reported to the police.
“The police have advised that all parents should be informed.
“Please advise your children that they should be extra vigilant and avoid walking home alone.”
The vehicle is described as being an old, red car with lots of scratches, driven by a white man with a scar on his cheek who wore a hoodie.
Anyone with information can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
