Daventry's DSLV principal praises students' A-level results

Daventry's DSLV students are celebrating a positive set of A level examination results today.

Newly appointed principal at the Southbrook school Simon Cotton said he is absolutely delighted for this year’s cohort of DSLV leavers and very proud of all the staff and students of the school for what has been achieved.

The 29 students of DSLV’s Year 13 improved upon the schools previous results with 100 per cent of students gaining two grades and almost 90 per cent achieving three grades. This has enabled the majority to go onto their university of choice including a 100 per cent success rate for those who were holding offers for places at Cambridge.

Top performers in this year’s examinations included Wasiq Sajjad with four A* grades and Megan Raynor with AAA*.

Wasiq has taken up his place at Pembroke College at Cambridge, while Megan goes on to develop her performance skills prior to pursuing an acting career.

Other students Luke Wilson, Meghan Davies, and Katrina Goffin, who all achieved ABC, also performed exceptionally well and have successfully obtained places at Sheffield University studying chemistry, Manchester studying psychology and Hull University studying geography respectively.

Ben Harris and Chelsea James were among those DSLV students who were part of the 100 per cent A*-B success rate in music and have been awarded places on highly competitive courses at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Principal Simon Cotton said: “The totality of these results is pleasing and very rewarding for everyone concerned especially in light of the wider national concerns regarding grade deflation making the highest grades much harder to achieve at every level.”

“While we are all very, very proud of every student’s achievements, we are perhaps most especially so in those instances where we know that individual students have done exceptionally well under very trying personal circumstances. “What some students have achieved and overcome is simply staggering.

“We have some very special people at this school and it is pleasing to know that our recent improvements have helped to drive an improvement in academic standards

“The DSLV motto is ‘Nurture, Aspire, Achieve’, and these results are a ringing endorsement of this ethos.”
