The white Ford van was broken into just after 6am on Friday (March 11) in Northampton Road, close to the junction with Arthur Street.

The van’s owner, who did not want to be named, said the incident had left him frustrated.

He said: “About a month ago my garage was broken into and I’m thinking of giving it up.

“It’s so frustrating because I’m just left powerless and can’t do anything about it.

“He was an opportunist who smashed the window with a flat-headed screwdriver, but I think he was spooked so came back about half an hour later.

“I’m married with a young daughter and if he’d taken something like tools, I would have been unable to work.”

THe victim told our sister paper the Northants Telegraph that a torch was taken from the passenger seat, although a Northants Police spokesman was unable to confirm this.
