A teenager was left with two dislodged teeth after being punched by a man with a 'scraggly' beard in Corby.

Police have launched an investigation after the 17-year-old boy was assaulted in the wooded area near Woodnewton Academy.

The incident happened between midday and 1pm on Wednesday (January 29) as the boy was walking through the woods between Rowlett Road and Willowbrook Road.

He was approached by a man who asked if he had a cigarette but when he said no, the man became abusive and punched him in the face.

The attack left the boy sustained two dislodged teeth and bruising.

A police spokesman said: "The offender is described as being white or possibly of dual heritage, in his early to mid-20s, about 5ft 11in, of a slim build with a dark patchy, scraggly beard.

"He was wearing a hat and hooded top, a black Nike jacket, trainers and dark tracksuit bottoms.

"Anyone with information or who may have witnessed this incident is asked to call Northamptonshire Police on 101 quoting reference number 20000055398."
