A teenage girl was the victim of a brutal assault by a woman in Daventry town centre.

Detectives say the girl got into a row with the woman who punched her, dragged her to the floor and kicked her inflicting head injuries.

The woman was with an elderly white man in an electric mobility scooter and a a black man with short black hair.

Police are appealing for witnesses and say a 25-year-old woman from Daventry has been arrested and released under investigation while they continue their enquiries.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "The girl sustained injuries to her head as a result of the assault which happened in Bowen Square between 4.20pm and 4.40pm on Tuesday, September 1.

"The woman who assaulted the girl is described as white, in her 20s, 5ft 10in, of a slim build with short blond hair. She was wearing a light blue flowery blouse and skinny black jeans.

"The offender was with an elderly white man who was in an electric mobility scooter and a black man with short black hair and was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans.

"If anyone witnessed this incident or has information which could help our investigations, please call 101 using reference number 20000454858. Alternatively, if anyone has information but wishes to remain anonymous, they can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
