Property in Northampton closed for three months to prevent '˜public nuisance'

A property in Kingsthorpe, Northampton has been served with a closure order under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

Northamptonshire Police, in partnership with Northampton Borough Council and Northampton Partnership Homes, served the order under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 and the application was granted by Northampton Magistrates’ Court.

The property, in Kingsland Gardens, Kingsthorpe, was sealed by Northampton Partnership Homes and will be subject to closure for three months.

Officers presented evidence that the closure was necessary as it was resulting in nuisance to the local community and the closure would prevent the disorder from continuing.

The closure was contested in court by the resident, however the order was granted after evidence indicated activity at the property was a cause of significant public nuisance.

Sergeant Wyn Hughes, from the North East Safer Community Team, said: “Police and partners will continue to target properties using this legislation, however we rely on the community giving us information in confidence so that we may target anti-social and criminal behaviour.”
