Passenger smashed windscreen of taxi in petrol station in Northampton

The windscreen of a private hire taxi was smashed while it was parked at a petrol station in Northampton in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

The driver had picked a man and woman up and taken them to the BP garage in Abington Avenue so the woman could use the cash point between 2.45am and 3.15am.

While the woman was out of the car the man, who was in the front passenger seat, threatened the driver before punching the windscreen, causing it to crack. The offender then got out of the car and walked off.

He was a white man, in his 50s, with light coloured, short hair, of medium build and had an Irish accent. He was wearing a white t-shirt and jeans.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have any information regarding it.

Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
