Northants Police warning over man claiming to have run out of fuel

Police are warning people to be vigilant after two separate incidents involving a man flagging down motorists and asking to borrow cash after claiming he had ran out of fuel.

One of the incidents was in Thrapston, near the A14/A603 roundabout, and the other was in Pattishall.

In the first incident a motorist was persuaded to drive to a cashpoint and hand over a quantity of cash which the offender, who was of Asian appearance, promised to repay.

The victim did not hear from him again and the money wasn’t given back.

A Northants Police spokesman said: “We are reminding people not to stop their vehicles or lend money to strangers.

“Witnesses or anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
