Liam Nield, of Cecil Road, Northampton, attacked a man in a bedsit in the town on February 28.

Northampton Crown Court heard Nield was staying with a group of employees who all worked for a window cleaning company and had been out for a night in Northampton.

The court heard Nield punched the man, who had not gone on the night out, after he told him to ‘keep the noise down’.

Gary Short, prosecuting, said Nield then ‘latched on’ to the victim’s ear with his teeth.

The pair were eventually separated after other people in the bedsit intervened.

The victim was taken to hospital along with a piece of his ear that had been found on a settee.

Mr Short said he was treated for his injuries however the part of his ear was unable to be reattached.

Nield pleaded guilty to a section 20 wounding offence when he appeared in court on Wednesday.

His Honour Judge Rupert Mayo said the attack has caused a ‘permanent disfigurement’ to the victim.

He sentenced Nield to 30 months in jail. He is likely to serve half in custody before being released on licence.
