A Northampton murder victim's family has increased their reward for information to catch the prime suspect on the shocking attack's sixth anniversary today (Saturday, January 16).

Jon Casey was allegedly stabbed by Waijs Dahir, who subsequently fled the country, on Barrack Road on January 16, 2015, aged 35.

The victim's devastated loved ones offered £25,000 for information leading to Dahir's arrest in 2019 but that has been upped to £30,000 after a lack of response.

They have also produced a banner for the appeal to go on the railings where Jon was found in a further bid for justice.

"After another year without Jon and without justice for what happened to him that night, we would like to remind people that the case is still open and that Waijs Dahir is still wanted for questioning in connection with the case," a spokesperson for the family told the Chronicle & Echo.

"We hope the banners that have been produced will help to jog someone's memory about what happened and that the increased reward of £30,000 will act as an incentive for someone to speak out and share details so that Waijs Dahir can be questioned about this cowardly and vicious offence.

"Somebody knows where he is and how he is communicating with people back home and any information regarding that could be useful in locating his whereabouts."

Jon is believed to have been stabbed near to Lazeez restaurant by Dahir at around 5.30pm on Friday, January 16, 2015.

An international warrant has been issued for the arrest of Dahir, thought to now be living in Mogadishu, Somalia.

He also has strong links in Kenya and may have illegally travelled back to the UK or the Netherlands where he is thought to have dual-nationality.

A Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman said: “The investigation into the murder of Jon Casey remains very much a live one.

“Officers from our major crime team are ready to pursue all new lines of enquiry and we encourage anybody with any information about what happened back in January 2015 to get in touch.

"However insignificant it may seem, it could just be the missing piece of the jigsaw we need in order to obtain justice for Jon and his family.

“This case was and remains a complex one with the main suspect believed to have fled overseas.
