Michael Moffat, aged 56, was arrested after police executed a search warrant at his home address in Welford Road, Northampton, on July 20.

Northampton Crown Court heard analysis of his computer revealed he had downloaded 62 indecent images of children, including a 41-minute video of a young child being abused.

The court heard that Moffat told officers who arrested him that “he had expected them to come for him for some time.”

Analysis of a Nikon camera found at the property also revealed a picture of young children standing at a bus stop outside his home.

Recorder Nigel Daly, sentencing, said the case was aggravated by the fact Moffat had downloaded such a long video of child abuse.

Moffat pleaded guilty to six counts of downloading indecent images of children and was sentenced to eight months imprisonment. He is likely to serve half his sentence in custody before being released on licence.

He was also ordered to comply with the terms of a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in place for ten years.
