A man has been convicted of shoplifting after a new radio link was introduced to shops in Rushden town centre.

In a bid to deter retail crime in the town, PC Matt Hart introduced a retail radio link in shops.

Use of the new link led to Christopher Nast, 32, of Harcourt Street, Raunds, being found guilty of theft at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and he was sentenced to 33 weeks in prison following an incident in Rushden high street.

PC Hart, retail crime manager for Rushden, said: “We introduced the radio retail link in an attempt to curb crimes against local businesses.

“The radio system allows businesses to keep in contact with each other and share information.

“On Monday, June 22, information was shared between shops and monitored by police, which led to the arrest of Christopher Nast on suspicion of theft.

“He was found guilty at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and sentenced to 33 weeks in prison.”
