Man suffered '˜life-changing' injuries after being found unconscious in Northampton town centre

Joe McFarland, aged 27, was found unconscious in Swan Street, Northampton town centre, in the early hours of Saturday, March 5.

Mr McFarland, a father-of-one from Wellingborough, was discovered sometime between 3am and 3.30am, and was rushed to hospital where he needed emergency surgery for a serious head injury. He remained in a coma for 10 days.

A police spokesman said today (Tuesday) Mr McFarland is now back home but has suffered life changing injuries.

Mr McFarland had been on a night out in Northampton town centre prior to the incident and officers would like to hear from anybody who saw him, or who has any information about the events leading up to the incident, which left him with a bleed on the brain.

Mr McFarland was wearing a navy ‘Weekend Offender’ top, a navy windbreaker, jeans and white converse high-tops. He left NB’s with a man and two women and was then picked up in a car by The Old Bank pub.

After that, he ended up on Swan Street (between St Johns Car Park and Northampton University halls of residence), which is where he was found unconscious.

A police spokesman said officers still need to piece together the events surrounding the incident and urge anybody with any information, however insignificant it may seem, to call police.
