Man jailed for Christmas Day attack on ex-girlfriend

A man who broke his former girlfriend's nose after he beat her up on Christmas Day has been sentenced to 15 months in jail.

Bruno Ramos, aged 29, launched a violent attack on his partner after they had both been drinking mulled wine with her two housemates.

Northampton Crown Court heard Ramos had to be seperated from the woman after he punched her repeatedly in the face and arms.

James Armstrong-Holmes, prosecuting, said the woman suffered a broken nose, chipped tooth, a swollen left eye and bruises to her arma and legs.

Mr Armstrong-Holmes said Ramos told officers in police interview that his ex-girlfriend attacked him and “made him do it”.

Ramos, who has a previous conviction for robbery in his home country of Portugal, pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm.

Recorder Helen Malcolm QC sentenced Ramos, of Linden Road, Abington, Northampton, to 15 months in prison.
