Man arrested on suspicion of going equipped for burglary in Wellingborough and threatening police with a chisel
Wellingborough Police were deployed to the Great Park Street area in Wellingborough yesterday at 12.30pm after receiving two calls about a man acting suspiciously.
The first caller described seeing a man trying car doors and gate handles in the Great Park Street area. A subsequent caller then reported a man of a similar description stabbing a chisel into a nearby pedestrian crossing pole.

The offender pointed the chisel at officers and PD Kez when approached by them. He continued to display aggressive behaviour and scraped the chisel down the side of one of the police vehicles.
Officers repeatedly asked the man to drop the weapon but he refused. At this point, one of the officers resorted to using their taser out of fear that the man would harm one of the nearby members of the public, the officers or PD Kez.
The 23-year-old Wellingborough man was arrested on suspicion of going equipped for burglary and for possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Taser was deployed by Kez’s handler to prevent the suspect being able to injure Kez or officers with the weapon and he was safely arrested.”
