Man arrested after cash stolen from houses in Northampton

A man has allegedly stolen cash from houses in Northampton after knocking on doors and offering to do work in their gardens.

During the past week, a number of residents in the Spencer, Dallington and Duston areas of Northampton have reported that a man has allegedly knocked on their door and offered to do gardening work.

On most occasions, the man has been asked to leave and has done so, however, in two incidents, he is believed to have entered the house and cash has been found to be missing.

A 48-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged thefts, however, police are continuing to appeal for witnesses and anyone who has any information or may have experienced a similar incident is asked to contact police on 101.

The man has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to call Northamptonshire Police on 101. Alternatively, they can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Officers are urging people to keep front and back doors locked at all times and not to open the door to unexpected or unknown callers.

If residents are suspicious about why someone is knocking at their door, they should call police on 101 or call the Doorstep crime Action Network (DAN) hotline 0345 23 07 702. In an emergency or if they feel threatened in any way, they should call 999.
