Lorry driver denies causing crash on A43 in Northamptonshire that left man with '˜horrific' injuries

A lorry driver has denied a charge of dangerous driving that allegedly caused a crash on the A43 in Northamptonshire that left a car driver with 'horrific' injuries.

Victor Harris, aged 55, was driving a DAF lorry on the A43 at the Hulcote turn on November 12 when his vehicle was involved in a collision with a Honda Civic driven by a 66-year-old man from Towcester.

At Northampton Magistrates’ Court, Matthew Thomas, prosecuting, said the driver of the car suffered “horrific” injuries after his vehicle was involved in a collision with the rear of the trailor.

The car driver had a total five operations, involving 45 hours of surgery and was in hospital for more than three months. He is currently undergoing a full reconstructuion of his elbow.

Harris, of Oldbury, Sandwell, pleaded not guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The case was sent to Northampton Crown Court. A hearing will take place next month.
