Getaway driver who helped carry out £200,000 heist at John Lewis depot in Northampton jailed

A man who helped carry out a £200,000 burglary at the John Lewis depot in Northampton five years ago has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in jail.

Polish national Lukasz Srodecki, aged 34, fled back to his home country in May 2013 after he admitted being part of a gang of five men who raided the depot in Brackmills.

Northampton Crown Court heard the men, including two former employees and one “inside man”, raided the warehouse on October 29, 2011. They stole 180 iPads, 26 MacBooks as well a Sony and Samsung laptops.

Srobecki was described as the gang’s driver who dropped four of the men off at the John Lewis depot and then picked them up once they had stolen the goods.

The court heard Srobecki pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to commit a burglary in April 2012 but later fled the country after he was released on bail.

Officers managed to trace Srobecki to an address in Poland but he then travelled to Norway.

He was finally arrested after he was extradited from Norway back to the UK.

His Honour Judge Michael Fowler sentenced Srobecki to four years in jail for the conspiracy to commit a burglary and six months, to be served consecutively, for failing to surrender to custody.
