Four children suffer facial burns after they are sprayed with '˜unknown liquid' in Northampton

Four children in Northampton suffered burns to their face after they were sprayed with an 'unknown liquid', a Northamptonshire Police spokesman has said.

The group of youngsters were playing on the basketball court on the recreational ground in Wootton on Saturday, July 30, when they were approached by three males who asked if they could join in.

A police spokesman said the four children refused and the men then went away. A short time later, at about 4.30pm, the males returned and an liquid was sprayed into their faces, causing burning to their mouth, eyes and nose.

A witness, who did not wish to be identified, said the four children were taken to hospital to be treated for blistering to the mouth. Two of the four victims have required follow-up treatment.

A police spokesman said the force was appealing for witnesses to the incident. Anyone who has any information is asked to call police on 101.
