Events will be held at Rushden Fire Station in Washbrook Road, Rushden, today (Saturday) from 10am-4pm, and at Rothwell Fire Station in Tresham Road, Rothwell, from midday until 4pm, when members of the public will be able to bring their vehicles along for a clean.

The Rushden car wash will also involve Fire Cadets from Rushden and Northampton.

Cars will be washed in return for voluntary donations, which will go towards The Fire Fighters Charity and its work to support retired and serving fire officers, staff and their families.

Andy Evans, one of the organisers, said: “We are hoping to make a splash at this car wash on Saturday and raise as much as possible for The Fire Fighters Charity.

“The charity’s work is so worthwhile, in terms of the support it offers fire service personnel and their families, we really hope that drivers use this opportunity to both help a great cause and to have their cars cleaned.”

Jill Tolfrey, chief executive of The Fire Fighters Charity, said: “The National Car Wash provides a vital source of income for the charity, as well as being a fun and popular event.

“It costs £9 million a year to keep The Fire Fighters Charity running – and with no regular Government funding, we rely completely on your donations and goodwill.”
