The driver of the white Toyota was stopped by officers on the Wellingborough Road on Saturday at around noon.

Police, who seized 30 cars that day as part of a road policing operation, said it was an "interesting concept".

PC Dave Lee said the driver would likely be fined or face a court appearance for the misdemeanour.

He tweeted: "Interesting concept for this Toyota that was driving along. #PeePo."

Northamptonshire Police added: "Our central ticket office will write to him giving him various options from a fine through to a court appearance."

It is not the first time the force has stopped drivers who have been barely able to see the road. In January 2013, officers tweeted a picture of an Audi covered in thick snow except for a tiny rectangular hole to allow the driver to see through.
