The Met is already investigating a series of about 35 incidents in and around London over recent years where cats and other pets were kills or maimed, often with parts removed and not recovered.

Glenn Dudman, of the Rushden Persian Rescue cat charity, said he feared the similarity between the London incidents and the one in Brackley may mean there is a connection. He said: “The MO is very much in keeping with the incidents in the capital over the years. It many mean this person or activity is spreading up the M40 corridor.”

Northamptonshire Police ask anyone with information to contact them by calling 101.
