Corby woman avoids jail after admitting carrying out violent attack with a high heel outside Kettering nightclub

A man and a woman who attacked a man outside a Kettering nightclub, leaving him with a head wound, have been given community orders.

Maria Almada, 41, of Lapland Walk, Corby, and Riu Nunes, 21, also of Lapland Walk, Corby, became involved in an argument with a man outside Aqua nightclub in the early hours of October 10 last year.

Northampton Crown Court heard Nunes threw a number of punches at the man before Almada then took off her heeled shoe and hit him in the head.

Ben Gow, prosecuting, said the victim suffered a head wound that needed five stitches and a graze to his elbow.

Almada and Nunes, who were not represented, both pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.

The court heard Nunes told police he could not remember the incident as he was too drunk. Almada said she had intervened after she saw her friend in an argument with the victim.

Her Honour Judge Adrienne Lucking, sentencing, said it was an “unpleasant offence in a public place.”

She sentenced Almada to a 12-month community order with a six-month rehabilitation order.

Nunes was sentenced to a 12-month community order including 100 hours’ unpaid work.

He must also pay costs of £300 and £500 compensation to the victim.
