Banned customer assaults betting shop staff member in Northampton after claiming he was owed money

A member of staff at a betting shop in Northampton was attacked by a customer who had previously been banned.

Northamptonshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened at Paddy Power in Abington Square.

A spokesman said: “At about 6.15pm on Saturday, 16 April, a man went into Paddy Power betting shop and claimed he was owed money from a bet. A member of staff asked him to leave as he had previously been barred. The man then became aggressive and racially abusive towards her.

“After being escorted out of the shop by two members of staff, the man then hit one of them in the chest area with his elbow.

“The man is described as white, about 5ft 10in, with a medium build, middle-aged, with short hair,” he added.

Witnesses to the incident, either inside or outside the shop, are asked to contact Northamptonshire Police on 101.
