A couple have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in a Northampton retirement village after being two of the first to move in when it opened.
John and Hilda Crocker, who moved into Richmond Retirement Village in Grange Park in 2007, celebrated the milestone by cutting a cake together at a small party with other residents.
The pair were married in Kent when John was 23, working as a BT engineer, and Hilda was 20, working as a telephone exchange girl.
Friends and family came together to create the big day: Hilda’s elegant white wedding dress was borrowed from a neighbour and her mother made the bridesmaid dresses and flower bouquet.
Richmond Northampton was recently named one of the top 20 care homes in the East Midlands after it was found to be one of the most recommended by family and friends of residents.
It came in at number 11 in the “carehome.co.uk 2015 Top 20 Care Home Awards”.
Cathy Goldsmith, clinical nurse and deputy manager, said: “This is testament to the dedication and hard work from all our staff at all levels, who are always welcoming to families and residents and to the many that go the extra mile to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay at Richmond Northampton.
“I am very proud to lead such a great team.”
The village plans to celebrate the achievement by holding a party for residents and their families and friends to thank everyone involved in putting it on the “care home map”.
Paul Bundyford, village manager, added: “I couldn’t be more pleased with this recognition, but it should come as no surprise to us given the level of commitment I witness from each member of staff each and every day.
“It is richly deserved and I for one cannot wait to celebrate this achievement with residents and team.”
