Plans are being drawn up to build a community centre with sports facilities in St Crispin’s, Northampton, it has been announced.

If the scheme is approved, Northampton Borough Council will construct the new community facility at St Crispin’s Park.

The £1.9 million project is being funded through money given to the borough council by developers working in the area.

The facility will include community rooms with a hall, four sports pitches, a café and other facilities including a pre-school group.

Cllr Brandon Eldred, Northampton Borough Council’s cabinet member for community engagement, said: “It is vital that as our town grows we look at how we can create communities with a sense of identity. A community centre can bring people together.

“The plans for the new community facilities are great news for the area and I would advise everyone who lives in the area to look out for the planning application when it is published later this month.”

A planning application is due to be submitted by the end of August and is expected to be considered by the council’s planning committee in September.
