A council building in Northamptonshire has been targeted by a vandal who smashed a window and then started a fire.

A brick was through a window of the offices of Daventry District Council in Lodge Road, Daventry, sometime between 8.20pm and 8.35pm on Saturday, March 7.

The vandal then poured an unknown fire accelerant through the window and set it alight. Fortunately, the fire was picked up by the smoke detectors in the building and only caused damage to a window blind and the windowsill.

A Daventry District Council spokesman said: “On Saturday night we were alerted to a fire at Northamptonshire County Council’s offices on the ground floor of the council building in Lodge Road.

“The fire was picked up by the smoke detectors and we understand that a passerby also called the fire service, who attended to put it out. Thankfully the fire was contained quickly and the damage to the building was minimal.”

Witnesses, or anyone with any information about this incident, can call Northamptonshire Police on 101.
