An illegal traveller site in Brixworth on Northamptonshire County Council Highways land is being “monitored” by the local authority, a spokesman said.

A small group of travellers have been living on a site in Harborough Road Industrial Estate for the past couple of months.

The land is owned by the council and is not accessible to the public, but people complained to the local authority about excessive rubbish left there.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire County Council said: “The Countywide Traveller Unit (CTU) is aware of the travellers in Harborough Road, Brixworth.

“This is a ‘stopped-up’ road and, as such, there are no obstructions issues. The CTU will continue to monitor the situation.”

The travellers site is within 100 yards of the Brixworth Police Station.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said officers were “aware of the site” and “had been making regular visits,”
