Council house staff will move to building near St Peter's Way roundabout

The staff are currently based at the Westbridge site, but a proposed power plant could be built there, leaving them without a base.

Councillor Mary Markham, leader of Northampton Borough Council, said the former power company building will be utilised and extended at the back to create the new base. It is understood no demolition works will be necessary.

Councillor Markham said: “We had this confirmed only in the last 24 hours so we’re absolutely delighted.

“It’s been on the cards for a long time and we’ve been in talks with National Grid for a while now.

“The only other offers they had had for it were from car showrooms and National Grid weren’t keen on that on a roundabout and neither were we.”

Councillor Markham said no further roadworks will be necessary on St Peter’s Way roundabout as a result of Northampton Partnership Homes’ move.

“It’ll be a lovely building on the corner but it’s also somewhere that will be easily accessible.

“The entrance and exit will be on opposite ends of the site and staff will leave the site from the road near Towcester Road B&Q.”
