Club night will hold silence to honour four Northampton friends killed in car accident

The four people, who have not yet been formally identified, will be remembered at the Basstravaganza night, which is due to be held on Saturday night.

Promoters said on Facebook they considered cancelling the night at Club 43 in Gold Street but were persuaded not to by friends of the four.

A message from Basstravaganza said: “We’ve all lost four great friends. They were always seen having a great time on our nights.

“It felt the right thing to cancel the coming night but then we spoke to a lot of you - their friends - and it turns out that majority of us actually would like the night to go on, so we all can gather together in the way they loved to do so much.

“Having heard all that we’ve decided to keep the night on for those of you who would like to come and meet up.

“There will be a moment of silence upstairs at midnight to honour the memory of the four friends,” the message added.

The accident happened on the A420 near Swindon on Sunday. Three other people were seriously injured in the head-on collision.

Thames Valley Police said that at 11.15pm a black Mercedes and a blue Citroen Saxo collided between the Watchfield roundabout and the Highworth turn off.

The Citroen Saxo was travelling towards Oxford while the Mercedes was travelling in opposite direction when the two vehicles collided head-on.

A spokesman for Thames Valley said this afternoon: “It is believed they were living in the Northampton area. The deceased have not yet been formally identified.”

The three occupants of the Mercedes, the male driver, a female passenger in her 30s and a three-year-old boy were all taken to the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford where they are being treated for their injuries, which are not, at this stage, believed to be life-threatening.

Det Sgt Gavin Collier, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Bicester, said: “This was a terrible incident in which four young people have lost their lives.

“We would urge anyone who was driving in the area last night and saw either of the vehicles prior to the collision to get in contact as they may have information which could help us with our investigation into the circumstances which led up to this tragic collision.”
