Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance is launching a campaign to raise £40,000 to pay for essential pain relief treatment.

The air ambulance treats hundreds of patients across Northamptonshire every year, many of whom need on-the-spot pain relief as soon as the helicopter arrives.

A spokesman for the WNAA said: “The charity is now encouraging people to donate to its Pain Relief Appeal so that its highly-skilled paramedics and doctors can continue to provide advanced pain relief and ease the discomfort of those in greatest need.

“In the last 12 months, WNAA has been called to 342 incidents in Northamptonshire – more than any other county.

“Just last week, the crew were called to a 19-year-old motorcyclist who had sustained limb injuries after coming off her bike near Slipton. The patient was given advanced pain relief at the scene by the crew before being airlifted to the most appropriate major trauma centre,” he added.

Daniel Evans, critical pare paramedic with the charity, said: “Many of our patients are in severe pain when we reach them. If you or your loved one was in that situation, you would want the pain to stop immediately.

“Administering immediate pain relief patients is a priority in almost all emergency situations we tackle. It enable us to provide treatment and perform procedures much more easily. We rely solely on public donations to help fund this important pain relief. We need people to support our Pain Relief Appeal so that we can continue to provide medical expertise, medicine and equipment to those who desperately need it.”
