Cab driver in Northampton subjected to vicious attack after two men refuse to pay fare

A cab driver was pushed against his car and repeatedly punched in the face after two men refused to leave his hackney carriage in Northampton.

The 42-year-old was parked in Mercers Row, Northampton, at around 1.40am on Sunday, when two men asked to be taken to Kettering.

The driver asked for the fare to be paid before leaving and the men were unable to pay, so the driver asked them to leave the car.

The men refused to leave, so the driver got out and opened the car door, at which point the men assaulted him.

He was pushed against the car and repeatedly punched in the face, causing bruising and swelling.

The attackers ran off in the direction of St Giles Street.

Both offenders were white men, aged in their mid-20s and about 5ft 7ins tall. One was wearing a black top, the other a red jumper.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has any information regarding it.
