Business Improvement District blitz Northampton streets in a bid to clean up town centre grime
Town centre streets most in need of a deep clean have taken a blast this week in a new scheme designed to bring a sparkle to Northampton.
The targeted cleaning programme is being funded by Northampton town centre Business Improvement District (BID) as part of its ongoing commitment to providing additional cleaning services to improve upon Northampton Borough Council’s existing statutory provision.
The BID funded cleaning crew took to Gold Street, College Street, Swan Yard, Jeyes Jetty and the Drapery this week, with the team next week due to target alleyways and streets around the Market Square, including Emporium Way and Mercers Row.
Andrew Cruden, BID Director and owner of Market Square News said: “We want shoppers, visitors and workers to have a positive experience when they come into Northampton town centre and ensuring it is an attractive and appealing place continues to be one of the most important issues for the BID.
“We are targeting the areas most in need of street cleaning this time, but this programme is just the beginning.
“We have various initiatives in the pipeline over 2017 to improve the look and feel of the whole of the town centre.”
The overnight intensive clean-up includes pressure washing pavements and surfaces, chewing gum removal, litter-picking and a general tidy up.
If you are a town centre business and would like to suggest other areas within the BID area be nominated for targeted deep cleaning, contact [email protected], call 01604 837766 or get in touch on Twitter @NorthamptonBID or Facebook: /NorthamptonBID.
General cleaning issues should be reported to Northampton Borough Council on 0300 330 7000.
