A man tried to force his way through the side door of a house in Northampton after first ringing the doorbell.

The victim - who lives in Rookery Lane, Spring Park - initially heard the bell ring repeatedly then, when she looked out the window, saw the top of the suspect’s head.

Shortly after, she heard the gate to the drive - at the side of the house - being opened and then some further noises outside.

She went downstairs and saw a man trying to force the side kitchen door. After she banged on the door, the man ran off towards Clover Lane.

The man is described as slim, between 5ft 10ins and 6ft and wearing either blue or black close fitting clothing.

Anyone with any information can call Northamptonshire Police on 101. Alternatively, they can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
