Burglar attempts to break into Northampton house by smashing window with large rock

A burglar fled empty-handed after he was caught trying to smash the back window of a house in Northampton with a large rock.

A homeowner returned to his property in Vicarage Road, St James, at about 3.20pm on Friday, to find a man banging a large rock against a window at the back of the house, attempting to break in.

The burglar ran off towards Spencer Bridge Road without gaining access to the house.

He was a white man, about 5ft 10in, of large build and wearing tight-fitting jogging bottoms with a grey hooded top.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or have any information regarding it
