Building collapses after blaze in town close to Northamptonshire border

Fire investigators are today trying to find the cause of a blaze in a historic high street on the Northamptonshire border.

The blaze started at 3.11pm on Sunday in a three-story commercial and residential building in High Street, Stony Stratford. The building partially collapsed after the fire.

A spokesman for Bucks Fire and Rescue Service said yesterday: “One appliance and crew from Bletchley, one from Olney, one from Broughton, one from Buckingham, one from Winslow, which was on standby in Milton Keynes, one from Aylesbury, which was on standby in Milton Keynes, one from High Wycombe, one from Bedfordshire, which was on standby in Milton Keynes, and one from Northamptonshire attended, along with four officers.

“Firefighters used three main jets, four sets of breathing apparatus and a turntable ladder. Relief crews will be attending in the night,” he added.

Crews remained on scene overnight as investigations continued.
