A fun day of entertainment and activities will be happening at Northampton Market Square on Saturday to celebrate the national Love Your Local Market event.
Northampton’s local market will be joining more than 1,000 markets across the country to take part in the event which began in 2012 to highlight the importance markets play in the heart of the community.
This year’s event in Northampton Market Square will provide entertainment including balloon art from the Balloonatics, inspired comedy from playful duo The Wardens, the singing nun Musical Ruth who brought hilarity to Britain’s Got Talent when she took judge David Walliams for a spin around the stage on her mobile piano and the extremely silly Fairly Fresh Fish Co.
As well as free entertainment, the markets team will be in the market office located near the Auctioneers pub to champion the market and attract budding entrepreneurs who are thinking of trading in the market.
A spokesperson for Northampton Borough Council said: “We are happy to support this year’s Love Your Local Market campaign. As well as the usual mix of fresh produce and fantastic products on offer, we have also lined up a packed programme of entertainment for shoppers and visitors to enjoy.
“Our market is an asset to the town and we hope people will come along on Saturday and join in the celebration.”
The fun starts at 10.30am and carries on until 4pm. Balloonatics will be on for half hour performances at 10.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm. The Wardens take a turn at 11am, 1pm and 3pm, Fairly Fresh Fish Co at 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm and Musical Ruth at 12pm, 2pm and 3.30pm.
